Mike has served as expert witness on multiple traffic safety cases over the past 26 years. His
testimony has been noted as sound and understandable to jurors and legal experts. He has also trained other engineers on providing expert witness testimony through the Tort Liability and Risk Management Workshops he has provided nationally, including developing mock trials for public works staff to participate in.

Mike has 33 years of traffic safety and executive level experience in all facets of traffic
engineering including planning, design, operations and training. His career focus has been on
providing safety for all road users.  His design experience includes intersections, roadways,
traffic signals, signing/pavement marking and parking lots. Mike has developed and taught
workshops on Road Safety Audits (RSAs), Roadside Safety, Risk Management/Tort Liability,
Incident Management, MUTCD, Work Zone Traffic Control, Traffic Calming, and Walkable
Communities. 

Mike has provided technical assistance to improve bus, motorist, bicyclist and
pedestrian traffic flow and safety on and around school properties. Mike has developed policies
and guidelines for state and county DOTs. He has participated in development of state, regional, county, city and tribal Strategic Highway Safety Plans. He has led and participated in research projects on work zone crashes, secondary crashes and effective traffic incident management, intersection traffic control, roadside barrier crashes, passing sight distance standards, and pavement marking and delineation treatments for older drivers.
